The body of a man who fell overboard a tug in stormy conditions off the Eastbourne coast in February has been washed ashore.
The man’s body was found on the shoreline underneath the cliffs at Beachy Head on Thursday morning.
Police later confirmed it was that of Stephen Robert Trice, 55, from Rainham, near Gillingham in Kent.
Mr Trice was reported as missing at sea in the early hours of Tuesday February 5.
He had been on board a vessel called Endurance, which was towing a 60ft motor cruiser from Dover to Brighton.
The tow was lost in the rough conditions and the man tried to reconnect it when he fell overboard at around 12.30am.
His colleague on board sent out a Mayday call and Eastbourne all-weather lifeboat began their search for the man shortly afterwards, and drafted in help from neighbouring stations.
A Coastguard Rescue helicopter also joined the effort, which went on all night and mobile units from HM Coastguard joined the crews at first light but there was still no trace of the man.
