Body found at base of cliffs near Eastbourne

The body of an unidentified man was found at the base of Beachy Head earlier today (Wednesday, May 5).

A spokesperson from Sussex Police said, “At 9.30am on Wednesday, May 5 the body of a man was found at the foot of cliffs at Beachy Head

“He is believed to have fallen from the top of the cliff shortly after 8am. There are no suspicious circumstances and the coroner’s officer has been informed. Identity has not yet been established.”

In regards to the incident a spokesperson from the Coastguard said, “We sent Eastbourne, Birling Gap and Newhaven Coastguard rescue teams, as well as the HM Coastguard search and rescue helicopter from Lydd and Eastbourne RNLI lifeboat to an incident in East Sussex this morning.

“The report (call) came into us just after 8.15am.”
