A town centre florists has scooped the coveted Best Shop Window Christmas Display 2012 award in Hailsham.
Fine Floristry in George Street wowed judges with their front window display which incorporated a traditional theme with an array of blossoms, wreaths and branches to get people in the festive spirit.
Shop staff were surprised when the Deputy Town Mayor Councillor Richard Grocock dropped in to hand out an award they hadn’t even entered for.
“We are over the moon to have won this year’s competition,” said proprietor Kelly Faithfull, who personally received the winner’s award.
“We love creating a Christmassy atmosphere for shoppers and we got to do something visually appealing for those who passed by the festive window.”
“The dressing-up and decorating of shop windows for Christmas clearly enhances the festive spirit of this important retail period,” said town councillor Mary Rowe who organised the competition this year.
“I am once again proud of the excellent talent of individual shopkeepers in Hailsham, especially Fine Floristry, in choosing displays that have visual impact and are, perhaps most importantly, original.”
“My warm thanks go to Fine Floristry and other town centre shops for all their effort and hard work that has gone into producing these pleasant festive displays.”
The Best Shop Window Christmas Display competition, organised and judged Hailsham town councillors, is based on the criteria that covers all aspects of Christmas, including overall impression and visual impact, creativity and ideas, and innovative themed displays.
A number of shop displays were short-listed for the Best Shop Window Christmas Display this year, including those produced by Payden’s Pharmacy, Legends Hair & Beauty, Creative Curtains, Focus Medical Eye Centre and last year’s award winner Bloomfields Florists.
