FLOODS: This year we were spared the floods of past years unlike the northern counties. A notable one in 1824 is reported to have carried a barge past Bishopstone up to Norton, although it must have skipped over flint walls to get there. In 1795 another boat was swept into the creek at Tide Mills, bad luck for the smugglers involved.
