The Bishop of Lewes, Richard Jackson, passed through Eastbourne last week as part of a Lent Prayer Pilgrimage.

Bishop Richard travelled from Rye to Shoreham between March 22 and March 27, visiting people, places and parishes.

He visited every Church of England parish along that part of the Sussex Coast, praying in each of the church buildings he enters. He used various methods of transport along the way, including his own Harley Davidson motorbike, a little walking and the odd lift in a car.

Bishop Richard said, “We are approaching Holy Week and Easter and the Diocese is planning to launch its new strategy in May, so I wanted some time to visit people, places and parishes and to pray as I go.”

Bishop Richard passed through Eastbourne on Tuesday, March 23, visiting St Nicolas’s Church in Pevensey, St Mary’s Church in Westham, St Richard’s Church in Langney, St Andrew’s Church in Eastbourne, Christ Church in Eastbourne, Holy Trinity Church in Eastbourne, All Saints Church in Eastbourne and St John’s Church in Meads.

On Wednesday, March 24, he visited St Simon’s Church and St Jude’s Church, both in East Dean.
