A COUPLE who set up a charity in memory of their late daughter have received July’s Resident of the Month award.

Jane and Fraser Brooks’ daughter Megan died suddenly a few months ago from heart problems, just before her 18th birthday.

Megan was working at Eastbourne Rugby Club at the time, where Fraser is chairman and Jane is clubhouse manager.

The heartbroken couple wanted to do something to help others in light of Megan’s death and formed the charity You Raise Me Up to provide comfort, support and financial assistance to parents who have lost teenage children.

So far, the charity has held a golf day and other supporters undertook the challenge of the South Downs Way bike ride, bringing the total raised to around £6,700.

In recognition of Jane and Fraser’s efforts, they have been presented with July’s Resident of the Month Award.

The award is sponsored by Advanta Chartered Accountants and the Eastbourne Herald.

Mike Cottingham, director at Advanta, met Jane and Fraser this week to present them with a special certificate.

Mike said, “My heart goes out to Jane, Fraser and all the family after the loss of Megan.

“It’s inspiring to see them rally around and set up a charity in her memory to help other parents going through the same as they did.

“They are thoroughly deserving winners of the Resident of the Month Award and we wish them well with the future fundraising for the charity.”

The couple are now looking forward to a complimentary meal for two at Ridgways restaurant in Meads.
