Eastbourne’s Ayo Sokale is looking to add the crown of Miss Earth England to her ever-growing list of titles.

Ayo was crowned Miss Earth East Sussex in July and will head to Birmingham on Sunday September 21 to represent the south east of England at the Miss Earth England grand final.

She has previously represented the region at the pageant held in Blackpool last year.

“I’m really excited to be representing the south east at the final again,” she said.

“I was so honoured last year. It was a fantastic event.”

The 21-year-old, who is sponsored by local wedding planners Claire de Lune Bridal, attended Willingdon Community School, then later on Moira House Girls’ School.

She is passionate about charity work and has been raising money since first entering pageants when studying Civil Engineering at Plymouth University.

Her first pageant triumph came in the from of the Miss Plymouth Galaxy title after she was entered by her mum and sister.

In the past year she has run a half marathon, run several boot camps and run community events, all in aid of charity.

The British Heart Foundation, RSPCA, Sands, Rainbow Hospice, and Prospect Hospice have all benefited from Ayo’s work.

The winner of Miss Earth England, which features champions from competitions all over the country, will go on to the international finals in Manilla, the Philippines.

They will represent England and become a spokesperson for the Miss Earth Foundation, the United Nations Environment Programme and other environmental organisations.

Miss Earth was originally set up to promote environmental awareness.

“To become an ambassador for charities abroad will give me a platform, that’s what I’m really interested in,” added Ayo.

The Foundation also works with the environmental departments of participating countries, various private sectors and corporations, as well as Greenpeace and the World Wildlife Foundation (WWF).
