THE WOMAN behind Eastbourne’s successful netball league, Sue Ivemy, has been awarded the Resident of the Month for January.

Sue launched the Eastbourne Netball League with just eight teams, but in six years it has grown to 40 teams playing in four divisions every Thursday evening at Hampden Park Sports Centre.

Sue and other members of the league are currently trying to raise £15,000 towards resurfacing the courts.

The Resident of the Month Award is sponsored by Advanta Chartered Accountants and the Eastbourne Herald and every month recognises a member of the local community who is making a major contribution to life in the town.

Mike Cottingham, director at Advanta, met Sue this week to present her with a special certificate.

Mike, who is pictured with Sue, said, “It’s amazing to see the work that Sue is doing in her free time.

“She has set up the league from scratch and is helping the sport to gain further popularity.

“It’s clear that Sue is very passionate about the game and that passion rubs off on the participants of the league.

“We are delighted to honour her achievements with the Resident of the Month award.”

Sue is now looking forward to a complimentary meal for two at Ridgways restaurant in Meads.
