Author scoops first prize for his short story

Francis Wait, the author of crime thriller Without Their Consent, won the Anderida Writers Annual Short Story competition on the theme A Voice in the Dark.

David Wells came second in the category, while Liz Wright pipped Heather Flood for first prize in the poetry section at Alice Croft House.

Jenny Jewiss, Harry Pope and John Hone finished third, fourth and fifth in the short story section. In the poetry Laurie Wilkinson was third and Hazel Elrick’s entries were fourth and fifth.

The two winners each received £50. Chairman Tony Flood presented an Outstanding Service Award of a cut-glass engraved vase to husband and wife acting stars Jeffrey Holland and Judy Buxton, who read out the entries of the 24 Anderida finalists.

Jeffrey Holland will be appearing at the Royal Hippodrome in his one-man tribute show to Stan Laurel entitled ‘....and this is my friend Mr. Laurel’ on September 3, while Judy Buxton is starring in unpredictable thriller ‘Double Death’ at the Devonshire Park Theatre from July 29 to August 23.

Jeffrey, one of the stars of TV comedy Hi-de-Hi!, is the patron of Anderida.
