AN EASTBOURNE artist has raised £1,000 for charity in memory of her late father and a friend who is terminally ill.

Jan Mirisola-Jones will hand over the money to Cancer Research UK.

She held a raffle in the run-up to and during the Eastbourne Festival Open House event in Baslow Road, which she ran with award-winning artist Cathryn Kemp and the winner was picked by MP Stephen Lloyd – pictured with Jan.

The winner is Kiri Papadopoulos from St Leonards who chose a painting as her prize.

Jan, whose style is a mixture of abstract and figurative, and specialises in using henna as a medium on her canvases.

She said she felt strongly about supporting the work of Cancer Research UK since her friend Juliet, 44, was diagnosed as being terminally ill from cervical cancer last September.

Jan’s father, Giuseppe, who was also an artist, died from prostate cancer six years ago.
