ARMED police and trained negotiators spent much of last night (Monday) talking to a man who was holding a person hostage at a flat in Willingdon Trees.
The drama unfolded at around 7pm when officers were called to a disturbance in a second floor flat in Hazlewood Avenue.
The road between Woburn Way and Croxden Way was cordoned off for more than five hours as large crowds gathered.
Police tried to convince the man to free his hostage and give himself up.
The siege ended at around 12.15am when the two men, both from Eastbourne, were safely negotiated out of the house.
A 38-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of false imprisonment and a 52-year-old on suspicion of wasting police time.
Both remain in custody for questioning.
