The water company is on the hunt for new operations apprentices in Sussex to work alongside the existing apprentices making their way onto the second year of the programme in September.

South East Water Apprentice, 21-year-old Jay Blott, who currently works across Sussex, said, “The scheme here is extremely varied.

“At the moment I am working in our distribution team which makes sure our network is maintained.

“ I go out and speak with customers and another part of my job is to shut water mains when they burst so our contractor can carry out repairs.

“Previous apprentices have gained permanent roles with the company and I see working in the water industry as a long term career which is extremely exciting.

“I would recommend the apprenticeship scheme at South East Water as the job is so wide ranging and every day is different.”

During the first six months of the programme, apprentices gain an overview of the company before specialising in one area of water supply.

Andrew Collins, operations and apprentice training manager at South East Water, said, “There is still time for young people across Hampshire to apply to our successful apprenticeship scheme.

“Apprenticeships are valuable to the company as a way of training new members of staff and developing their talent by working alongside more experienced water workers who want to pass their knowledge on.

“As well as gaining hands on experience the apprentices also work towards achieving a Water Engineering Diploma and Level 3 NVQ.”
