An amateur boxing club that was running out of Newlands School in Seaford, which has now closed down, is appealing for help with finding a new home in Hailsham.

The Seaford and Newlands ABC was set up at the school about two years ago but has been forced to find a new home after the independent school shut its doors because its funding was withdrawn.

The closure has now left the club with nowhere to practice, leading coaches Adam Rose and Dave Selby to issue a desperate plea for help from members of the community.

Adam Rose said, “We turned up at the school on Wednesday and was told that it was closing, so that evening would be our last practice.

“Now we’re looking for somewhere to train and are asking anybody if they have a hall or an outbuilding that they are willing to let us use.

“We have worked so hard to get it up and running. We do this for the love of boxing - we don’t earn money out of the club, we only charge £2.50 for children and £3.50 for adults, so we can’t afford to rent a hall.

“We need it to be a place where we can store our equipment, including a ring, between sessions and preferably be in the Hailsham area.

“We don’t need somewhere with electricity - it can even be something like a barn, as long as it’s dry and stable.

“It took us 18 months to find Newlands School and we really don’t want to be waiting that long again. It’s just so hard to find somewhere.

“We’re doing a good thing here, by getting kids off the street and keeping them active. It would be a huge shame if we didn’t find anywhere.”
