Eastbourne Allotments and Garden Society held its Summer Show on Saturday (July 19) and with the forecast thunder storms failing to arrive, it proved a great success.
More than 60 people enjoyed a barbecue and entertainment was provided by John Boyle with ‘Melody’ his 1935 Austin 7 van with fairground organ installed.
The fruit, flower and vegetable competition attracted almost 90 entries from 12 exhibitors which where judged by an RHS accredited judge.
MP Stephen Lloyd presented prizes for both the Show and the recent Best Kept Allotment competitions. The Summer Show shield for most points was won by John Dann. The overall Best Kept Allotment competition winners were David and Emma Taylor. The Best Kept Allotment competition for ‘newcomers’ was won by John and Karen Vine. And the winner of the newly presented ‘Milhams Cup’ for the Best Kept Disabled Raised Bed was won by Linda Clark.
Mr Lloyd was told about the appeal to raise £15,000 to restore the raised allotment beds for disabled gardeners. Contributions can be sent to Gwyn Hughes, Allotments Manager, EAGS, Gorringe Road, Eastbourne BN22 8XL, with cheques payable to Eastbourne Allotments and Garden Society Disabled Allotments Fund.
