Air ambulance called after Old Town incident

A man is recovering this morning (Monday) after an incident in Old Town.

The man was found lying in the road outside Waitrose at around 11.30pm on Friday.

It is not known whether he had been attacked or hit by a vehicle.

Emergency services were called including detectives and the High Street was closed off for some time between Moatcroft Road and Borough Lane.

The area by the cash dispenser outside Waitrose was cordoned off until Saturday lunchtime.

The Sussex air ambulance was scrambled and landed nearby but the man was taken to hospital by ambulance.

He is believed to have been taken to the trauma unit at Brighton.

Police have not yet revealed details of the incident.
