Where is Eastbourne in the list of ‘best seaside towns in the UK’?
A survey ranking all of the UK’s seaside towns has been released by Which? magazine.
Eastbourne is ranked 38th in the list of UK seaside towns despite getting five out of five stars for entertainment.
Eastbourne was the second-highest Sussex seaside town behind Rye in seventh – despite Rye being two miles from the sea – but ahead of Brighton in 57th, Hastings in 76th, Littlehampton in 81st and Worthing in 92nd – seventh from the bottom with one star for attractions.
Overall, Eastbourne had good ratings from the survey that was completed by more than 4,061 participants.
Eastbourne had three stars for beach, seafront and pier, food and drink and shopping and four stars for tourist attractions, scenery, value for money, shopping and peace and quiet with an average hotel rate of £65.
The town’s only maximum score of five came in the entertainment category with Eastbourne having a customer score of 74 per cent.
Which? said the ratings were based on a combination of overall satisfaction and how likely people are to recommend the town or city as a holiday destination.
Bamburgh in Northumberland came out on top while Dartmouth, Tynemouth, St Andrews, Aberaeron, North Berwick, Rye, Filey, Southwold and St Davids made up the rest of the top 10 seaside towns.
