Clubs and Societies Report: Harbour Friends

SINCE its inception six years ago, under the tender care of Bev Adams, Harbour Friends continues to grow and grow.

The aim of the group is to encourage a community spirit on Sovereign Harbour.

As Bev has always said, the intention is that nobody living on the Harbour should feel alone and the regular meetings and events of the Friends aim to ensure this.

The Friends meet every Sunday evening at 7.30 pm in the first floor bar of the Yacht Club (lift access) and is open to all residents of the harbour.

New members are always welcome and at each meeting there is someone from the committee there to welcome and introduce new members.

Over the year there are numerous events, which in the last year have included quiz nights, a Race Night, Beetle Drive, ‘Not quite Bingo’ and visits to Bruges, Windsor and Portsmouth.

Twenty members of the friends recently enjoyed a visit to Rye.

Although it was a cold day, a wander around some of the ancient streets and visits to various historic places, including the magnificent Church of St Mary’s, proved to be a most pleasing day.

A hearty lunch of steaming hot fish and chips, was followed by time for shopping. In all a most enjoyable day.

Membership events planned for the future:

April 10 - Getting to know you - speed meeting game.

A fun way of meeting people.

May 8 - Quiz night. You don’t have to be brainy to attend this one.

July 17 - Call my bluff - remember this one.

Lots of laughing predicted.

Events still in the planning stages include a visit to Littlington Tea rooms and plant nursery, pub skittles, a session of ten pin bowling and of course the summer barbecue.

No transport?

Don’t let the absence of a car put you off.

If we can help with this we will.

Why not come along and join a friendly bunch of people.
