Construction of iconic Beachy Head lighthouse in pictures

Beachy Head lighthouse was built in 1901 to replace the lighthouse at Belle Tout and became fully operational in 1902.

It was the last traditional type of ‘rock tower’ offshore lighthouse in the UK built by Trinity House and it became fully automated in 1983.

We had a look in our archives and found these stunning photographs from 1901, showing the construction of the lighthouse.
