The clock on the tower of St John’s Church in Meads was out of action and required work from specialist engineers.

The work, that was carried out on Monday, April 12, was covered with the help of a local fundraising campaign through The Parish magazine and money from Eastbourne Borough Council’s devolved budget scheme.

The arms and mechanism have now been taken to a workshop for repair and will be returned in ‘a few weeks’.

Vice chair of St John’s Parochial Church Council David Scott-Ralphs said, “We are so pleased to have been able to undertake this work to repair the church clock. The clock and church tower are a familiar and much-loved landmark in Meads and our parishioners when out and about have missed seeing the right time on the clock face.

“We hope that this will soon be put right and all will be working properly again. Thanks to those who gave financial support for these works.”
