According to developers HDS Architects working in conjunction with East Sussex Healthcare Trust, which submitted the application last week between March 1 and March 7, the plans outline that the need for office space ‘outweighs’ the need for the current ‘dilapidated’ tennis court space.

HDS Architects said in a design and access statement, “The existing tennis court on site has been disused for many years and has fallen into disrepair. The boundary fences have all broken, and the surface of the court has almost completely broken up.

“The hospital’s current administration demands outweigh the space available and future requirements for increased ward spaces necessitate the move for existing offices to a new location.”

In the design and access statement HDS Architects and ESHT said the three-storey building would not be used for clinical use and will only accommodate administration staff from across the site.
