Eastbourne community centre hopes to vaccinate 3,000 people every day
A community centre in Eastbourne which has been converted into a Covid vaccine centre hopes to vaccinate 3,000 people per day.
The Sovereign Harbour Community Centre in Pevensey Bay Road, which is managed by Wave Leisure Trust, is now being used as a vaccination hub.
The centre will vaccinate people who are registered with seven different GP practices in Eastbourne and Seaford.
Duncan Kerr, CEO at Wave Leisure Trust, said, “It is great to see one of our sites being used as a vaccination hub and I commend the fantastic work the NHS has been doing throughout the pandemic.”
The CEO of South Downs Health and Care GP Federation Mark Cannon, said, “We have been bowled over by the support of Eastbourne Borough Council and Wave Leisure Trust.
“Nearly 90 per cent of the over 50s in the practices we support have been vaccinated.
“Along with other local centres, that means over 50 per cent of the population of Eastbourne and Seaford have had a first dose.
“Having had the space of the Sovereign Centre and now the Sovereign Harbour Community Centre means that we will be able to keep going with this crucial work, delivering up to 3,000 vaccinations per day.”
All vaccinations will be by appointment only. People will be contacted by South Downs Health and Care by letter, text or phone to book an appointment when eligible.
Vaccine supply will be limited in April and people are being strongly encouraged to attend their appointment when they receive it.
The seven GP practices registered with the community centre are:
• Arlington Road
• Park Practice
• Grove Road
• Old School Surgery
• Seaford Medical Practice
