Based on the current Causeway School site, Swales Academies Trust believes the partnership with the Turing Trust will ‘inspire our future generations and instil the three core values of tolerance, respect and determination that Alan Turing stood for throughout his life’.

Alan Turing was an influential mathematician whose ground-breaking work played a crucial role in cracking intercepted coded messages that enabled the Allies to defeat the Nazis in World War II.

Jon Whitcombe, the chief executive officer, said, “The school will be a beacon within our community embedding high standards and excellence within all that we do.

“Our curriculum will be centred around mastery in maths and from Year 7 our students will be placed within academic groups that ensure achievement for all.

“Through the conversion the school will be also buying new blazers and ties for all our current students.”

The work with the Turing Trust will also see the new school foster international links with overseas schools and develop a broad extra curricular programme which will include links to Russell group universities including Oxford and Cambridge.

James Turing added, “My family and I are humbled to hear about the newly named Turing School and we are delighted that Alan’s legacy will be honoured in a way that echoes his lifelong passion for learning.

“We are also eagerly looking forward to seeing a partnership between the Turing School and the Turing Trust begin that will enable thousands more students in Malawi to benefit from improved digital resources whilst also inspiring pupils in the UK by taking a global approach to education.”
