GCSE results day: Eastbourne’s Roedean Moira House students praised

Head of teaching Mrs Barber said the school is delighted after 45 per cent of grades were awarded a 9-8, which is the equivalent of an A*.

Overall, 98.7 per cent of all courses completed achieved a 9-4, which is the same as an A*-C grade, the school said.

Mrs Barber said, “It has been a challenging year for all at Roedean Moira House.

“The announcement of the school closure in early March followed by the covid-19 pandemic has meant that the Roedean Moira House community has had to draw deep on its spirit.

“The results today are due to the resilience, tenacity and hard work of all involved.

“In addition to the excellent results produced today, we are just as proud of the community spirit, charity work and demonstration of our school motto ‘other people matter’ our Year 11’s have shown during the lockdown, both here in Eastbourne and overseas.

“The past week has been notably difficult for many of our students due to the national process of awarding grades.

“However, these results demonstrate the sustained hard work of students and their teachers over their time with us - and for some of these students since nursery.”

The school highlighted Esme and Hope, twins, who between them amassed an impressive 18 grades at A*/9.

Mrs Barber said, “We are also especially proud of our students who took GCSE dance, who all achieved the highest grade, 9.

“As our students leave us to continue their studies as sixth formers we are very proud of their tenacity and kindness throughout their time with us.”
