The club said on its Facebook page that the vandals had smeared glue on CCTV cameras but before that images were captured of three people in the club grounds by the cameras.

The club did say it had been overwhelmed by messages of support and offers of help from the community following the incident, which has been reported to police.

A police spokesperson said, “Officers were called at 7.50pm on Saturday (March 6) to reports of criminal damage to a gate at Langney Sports Club, Priory Road, Eastbourne. Enquiries identified further criminal damage that had been caused to CCTV cameras at the club on Friday, February 26.

“Police enquiries are ongoing. Anyone who has witnessed any suspicious behaviour in the area or who has any other information is asked to contact police online or by calling 101 quoting serial 924 of 07/03.”

A club spokesperson said on Facebook, “As a club we are absolutely blown away by the support given to us over the weekend.

“These mindless people may have caused damage to our property, to our CCTV and slashed our football nets but what they also did was rally our community into supporting us.

“I can’t even begin to tell you how many people messaged, phoned the police with names and offered to help us repair the damage and for it we are so so grateful.

“What you all did just goes to show why we are here and why we do what we do. We just really want to say ‘Thank you’ but it doesn’t seem enough.”
