The seafront procession was cancelled last year due to the coronavirus pandemic and organisers had hoped it could be held this year on the last Saturday in May as it has been for the last few years.

But they said this week Covid-19 restrictions mean it will be put back until September.

The carnival’s patron and former Eastbourne MP Stephen Lloyd said, “It was a real blow to have to cancel last year’s Sunshine Carnival and the team were all looking forward to it running again in May this year.

“However, because of the ongoing covid restrictions and after taking advice from the council and our own safety representative, the carnival committee has decided to postpone this year’s event to Saturday September 18.

“We all hope the restrictions will have been completely lifted by September so that our wonderful town can once again enjoy the fun and frolics of its Sunshine Carnival.”

The annual event raises thousands of pounds for local charities.
