The circus is coming to town from Wednesday to Sunday, May 19-23 in the Festival of Transport Field, Hellingly, Hailsham BN27 4DU.

Circus founder John Lawson said: “It’s been an incredible time for us. We had a whole tour scheduled for 2020 and two days before we were due to pull onto the first venue we decided to postpone and sent our foreign artists home on the last few planes flying.

“We are taking a gamble starting again this May, especially on a 50 per cent reduced capacity to comply with social distancing, but I feel that business will be good as everyone will want to start taking their children out again hopefully. We have put together possibly our strongest ever show so it should entice our customers back into our big top!

Tickets available from ticketsource now.

“The big top which we are using at the moment measures 80ft (24m) in diameter and was specially made for us by the famous Italian tentmakers Scola Teloni.

“The big top takes approximately five hours to build up and two and a half to pull down. In the course of our season which runs from early March to early November we visit as many as 70 venues up and down the country, sometimes staying for only one or two days.

“Everything therefore is designed for ease of erecting and dismantling so that we can continue to bring you circus – still the greatest show on earth!

“We’re back for 2021 with an amazing new show with all the thrills and spills you would expect from the UK’s favourite family circus. And this year we are proudly supporting The Rotary Club of Great Britain.

“We will be visiting over 50 venues throughout our season, so that’s over 50 times we have to build up and pull down the big top so as you can imagine we work like a well-oiled machine – well most of the time!

“All the artists and staff help with the big top and moving our little village around the country plus performing in the ring and making candy floss, popcorn, hot dogs etc.

“When you work on a small circus you have to be multi-talented and we all pitch in with the day-to-day logistics, so when you watch our show just remember the beautiful girl high in the roof of the big top will also be the girl who was up at 6 am driving a lorry to our next venue or the clown who makes you laugh will also be swinging a sledgehammer to drive the 5ft stakes into the ground to secure the big top, But no matter how hard the work is, or how long the days are, we wouldn’t change a thing.

“So leave the hard work to us and sit back and enjoy the wonderful entertainment that is John Lawson’s Circus.”
