General manager of the Hailsham Pavilion Paul Nunney said: “The auditorium will operate with a reduced seating capacity in order to comply with current government guidelines on social distancing in cinemas and theatres. In order to protect customers and staff during this public health crisis it has been necessary to make the venue COVID-secure. To maintain this, cleaning and sanitising sessions will be carried out daily and after every film screening. Staff will also receive the appropriate COVID-19 training and with the added co-operation of cinema goers will be able to produce an enjoyable and relaxing experience in the beautiful cinema with its historic ambience.

“As the programme of films may be subject to change at short notice, it is recommended that all customers should regularly visit the cinema’s website (www.hailshampavilion.co.uk) where up-to-date information can be found on forthcoming screenings.

“Hailsham Pavilion will be supporting the NHS Track & Trace scheme and will be collecting customer contact details as they book their tickets.”

Paul added: “These are strange and difficult times and whilst we would like to return to normal operating practices, we have a duty to keep our customers safe and comfortable and to follow UK Government Guidelines. Our COVID-secure operating policy will enable us to achieve that, and we look forward to seeing our wonderful staff and customers.”

Hailsham Pavilion was built in 1921 and has had a chequered history. In 1967 it was converted to a bingo club. It was granted Grade 2 Historic Building status in the 1970s. The façade is one of the most elaborate of any small provincial cinema.
