Crawley Down Gatwick lost out to Hassocks on Saturday despite having some promising moves in the first half.
Hassocks took the lead after 12 minutes when Phil Johnson seized on a pass to cut inside and fire past keeper Andy Greaves to give the visitors first blood.
Hasocks made it 2-0 on 50 minutes when flankman Jamie Hillwood cut inside to score off the far post.
The Anvils fought back with Lee Thomas blasting home to narrow the deficit.
