The aim is to provide ten new boats for coaching sessions with children aged seven and eight. Centre manager Lee Mercer and sports coach Stuart Lindfield gave a talk to Shoreham and Southwick Rotary Club to explain more about the project. They were guest speakers at a weekly meeting, held at The Amsterdam in Shoreham earlier this month. Rotarian Les Baker said: “The centre, situated beside the river in Shoreham, provides all sorts of youth activities, including a very strong marine section. “We were told about an exciting development, to introudce more children to the very rewarding sport of kayaking.” Each kayak will cost £500, making the cost of the fleet £5,000. Mr Baker said: “It was decided that as this is such a good project for the young local youth, the club should donate £500 to buy one new kayak.” President Robert Dunn presented a cheque and Mr Mercer said it was a fantastic donation to commence the project.
