Fire breaks out at Crawley house

Firefighters tackled a blaze at a house in Crawley yesterday afternoon (Saturday, September 17).

Crews from Crawley, Horsham, Turners Hill, and Haywards Heath fire stations attended the scene at around 5pm.

The fire broke out at a home in Byrd Road, Bewbush.

A spokesperson for West Sussex Fire & rescue Service said: “We were called at 4.34pm on Saturday 17 September to reports of a fire involving a residential property on Byrd Road in Bewbush, Crawley.

“Joint Fire Control mobilised fire engines from Crawley, Horsham and Turners Hill to the scene, along with the Incident Command Unit from Haywards Heath.

“Upon arrival, crews found a fire involving the first floor and roof space of the terraced property, and firefighters wearing breathing apparatus quickly got to work extinguishing the fire. They used three high pressure hose reels and two jets to bring the fire under control.

“Firefighters remained on scene cutting away and damping down and used a thermal imaging camera to ensure there were no further signs of fire.

“They left the scene shortly after 7.30pm, before returning again at 9pm to carry out a reinspection, but no further action was required.”
