A man was arrested after a number of windows were smashed at a garage and shop in Burgess Hill, police have confirmed.

At 7.30am on Saturday (October 31), police were called to the Co-op and BP garage in London Road where it was reported that a man had smashed the windows and then made off towards the Victoria Industrial Estate.

On Saturday afternoon police arrested a 28-year-old man from Burgess Hill on suspicion of criminal damage and possessing an offensive weapon in a public place, a police spokesman confirmed.

He was questioned and later bailed to return on November 28 with conditions not to attend the shop or garage, police added.
