Hide AdDr Robin Baker, the university's vice chancellor, said he expected about 40 students to form the first intake.
"The course will be very popular because of Butlins, the Chichester Festival Theatre and the other arts and leisure venues around here. There's a real need for the skills we will be offering," he explained.
Offering more qualifications in Bognor would add to the area's regeneration by confirming the desire of both the university and Butlins to benefit the town.
Dr Baker launched the course in the Butlin's Shoreline Hotel by signing a memorandum of understanding with resort director Jeremy Pardey.

It is the first time Butlins has entered the world of academia since the firm was founded 73 years ago. It is also a groundbreaking move to link the two largest employers in Bognor.
They have faced each other across Upper Bognor Road since Butlins opened in 1960 without ever speaking.
But the pioneering long-term partnership which has been signed promises to be the start of a relationship which combines learning and laughter.

Hide AdMr Pardey said: "We leant over the fence and began talking as neighbours finding, as is so often the case, we would really enjoy working together.
"As the conversations developed, some great ideas began to unfold that would benefit our respective teams, organisations and Bognor as a whole. Everyone here is really excited."
The foundation degree course will see students learn all about backstage work.
Those taking part will be offered work placements by Butlins during their studies.
