Winning isn’t everything is the message of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling bee...and losing doesn’t necessarily make you a loser.
The Tony award winning musical with music and lyrics by William Finn will be at the Under Ground Theatre from September 9-12.
Following on from ‘Avenue Q,’ ‘The Thrill of Love’ and ‘Jezebel’ The Green Room Productions brings this hilarious tale which chronicles the experience of six adolescent outsiders during the spelling championship of a lifetime.
This is the unlikeliest of hit musicals about the unlikeliest of heroes: a quirky yet charming cast of characters for whom this competition is the one place where they can stand out and fit in at the same time.
Not only that but there are special guest spellers participating in each show: on September 9 it’s Fame Academy singer Chris Manning, on September 10 The Bachelor’s Dec Cluskey, on September 11 weatherman Michael Fish, and on September 12 for the matinee it’s crime writer Lynda La Plante while in the evening the guest is Monty Python actress Carol Cleveland. Performances 7.30pm, matinee 2.30pm, tickets £15, £14 UGT members & students. To book call 0845 6801926, go to www.undergroundtheatre.co.uk, or Eastbourne Tourist Informaton office.
