Eastbourne College pupils are in the midst of rehearsals for a frothy contemporary musical inspired by Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice.
I Love You Because, written by Joshua Salman and Ryan Cunningham, explores the bewildering rules and nuances of dating and reminds us that true romance is learning how to love someone, not in spite of their differences, but because of them.
Set in New York the show follows six friends type characters in their attempts to find love.
With a full chorus and talented cast of more than 40 13-18 year olds, rehearsals are frantically busy but tremendously catchy tunes and some great gag lines coupled with the raw enthusiasm of a young cast keep everyone on their toes.
Eastbourne College’s director of drama Tim Marriott directs with Nick Parrans-Smith as musical director and choreography by Kirsty Hamilton-Reid.
This musical will be the first production staged by the College in the new Birley Centre auditorium and runs December 3-7. Tickets available from firstname.lastname@example.org or 01323452255
