THE WEST End’s favourite musical comedy, Hairspray, is coming to the Congress Theatre next month (February 15-26).
Sixties pop star Micky Dolenz and Brookside’s Michael Starke star in this hilarious musical with real sticking power.
Hairspray transports you back to 1962 where Baltimore’s Tracy Turnblad, a big girl with big hair and even bigger heart, has only one passion - to dance.
Tracy wins a spot on the local TV dance programme, ‘The Corny Collins Show’ and, overnight, is transformed from outsider to irrepressible teen celebrity.
But can a trendsetter in dance and fashion vanquish the programme’s reigning princess, win the heart of heartthrob Link Larkin, and integrate a television show without denting her ‘do?
Tracy Turnblad sets out to follow her extraordinary dreams, inspire her mum, Edna, and win the boy she loves.
The musical is based upon the film written and directed by John Waters.
The 2007 film remake saw an all star cast sing and dance their way through the 60s, including John Travolta, Michelle Pfeiffer and teen heart-throb Zac Efron.
Directed by Jack O’Brien and choreographed by Jerry Mitchell, Hairspray is the musical with everything – the ultimate feel-good show which has played to sold out houses in London, on Broadway and theatres around the globe.
Evening performances are at 7.30pm, with Thursday and Saturday matinees at 2.30pm.
Tickets cost from £20-£42.50, call 412000 to book or for more information.
