Eastbourne Theatres are delighted to be co-producing, with acclaimed Brighton based theatre company Talking Scarlet, a brand new production of Educating Rita at the Devonshire Park Theatre from August29-September 7 starring Brian Capron and Jennifer Daley.

Brash, straight-talking hairdresser Rita is unhappy with her job and the low expectations of those around her. She wants to know ‘everything’, and decides to pursue her recently acquired passion for learning by taking an Open University course in English literature. Frank, a failed poet whose cynicism has led him to take solace in the bottle, agrees to tutor her. It’s a relationship that will change both their lives forever.

Willy Russellwas inspired by his own experiences at evening classes to write this intimate comedy. Thought provoking, funny and moving, Educating Rita is a comic masterpiece and a modern stage classic.

Brian Capron, who lives in Hove, takes the role of tutor and poet Frank; Brian hit the headlines playing Coronation Street serial killer Richard Hillman. His other roles include the Teacher Mr Stuart (Hoppy) Hopwood in Grange Hill, a year long stint in EastEnders, and guest appearances in many other TV shows.

Jennifer Daley’s voice is known to millions as she’s currently Amy Franks in The Archers; her extensive stage work includes Gutted, Bashment and Crowning Glory .
