Halloween may mean fancy dress parties and trick or treating to most but at Eastbourne Theatres it means costumes of another sort as the annual panto countdown begins.
With just six weeks until curtain up for Beauty and the Beast at the Devonshire Park Theatre the whole complex becomes a buzzing hive of activity.
Although the cast and creatives are not on site for a few weeks yet, plenty is happening behind the scenes.
With the show created especially for Eastbourne it is no wonder costume designer Shelley Stevens begins work on her creations in April. Shelley and her team design and make all the outfits - up to a staggering 90 costumes per panto!
Sequins and material are being sewn, set and prop designs are underway and ice-creams are ordered – all 16,000 of them!
The stage will be transformed into provincial France as our heroine Belle gets set to go on a journey of love and adventure which will prove that beauty really is in the eye of the beholder.
Starring Carley Stenson (Hollyoaks and direct from the West End) as wicked enchantress Malevolent with a welcome return by Martyn Knight as Dame Derriere and comic Tucker as Potty Pierre. Emily Bull plays Belle.
Tickets for Beauty and the Beast are priced from just £12. The pantomime runs from December 12 to January 11 - book on 01323 412000 or online www.eastbournetheatres.co.uk
