“THERE was nothing like a Dame...” at the Spotlight Players’ annual pantomime Beauty and the Beast.
Audiences at the four performances forgot the snow and ice as they were transported to the village of Petitpois in rural France.
Wicked witch Grottilda (Di Lace at her scariest) was thwarted in her evil plans by the good Rose Fairy (Bonnie Beck), and so eventually, handsome Prince Andree (Hazel Gausden) won his true love, Belle (Charlene White).
And the “women” were something else - plaudits go to Madame Fifi (Ross Norman) in her eye-catching outfits and Esmeralda (John Graham) with her fetching pigtails and miniskirt.
Aimee Baldwin made an endearing “dimwit” as Alphonse, Belle’s brother. With the addition of trusty horse, Hortense and foot-tapping musical numbers from shows and popular music, all the generations who braved the elements earned themselves a most enjoyable evening.
Roll on December 2011 for Spotlight’s next pantomime.
