Friday 13 will be anything but unlucky for those at the Royal Hippodrome Theatre experiencing the much acclaimed Dickens Abridged.

One of the founders of the Reduced Shakespeare Company, Adam Long has been impressing audiences with his witty and technically accomplished romp through Dickens’s greatest hits, weaving in and out of a lovingly irreverent biography of the writer’s unconventional life. The cast of four strike an instant rapport as they launch into a string of condensed retellings of novels such as Oliver Twist, A Christmas Carol, The Old Curiosity Shop and Great Expectation as well as many others. Fans of the books will get all the references, but there is nothing to stop newcomers to Dickens being won over by the dynamism of the cast. Performance at 7.30pm, tickets from £15.
