The cast of ‘A Christmas Carol by Candlelight’ were in Eastbourne preparing for their performances at the Underground Theatre this weekend.
The show’s producer and writer is Eastbourne’s Tony Norman. He has written nine original songs for the show, which also includes classic Christmas carols.
“Nicholas Parsons has joined us to play Charles Dickens and It’s great to have everyone here in Eastbourne,” Tony says. “The show is set on Christmas Eve 1845 and opens with an a capella song sung by a troupe of travelling players - four men and four women - as they enter the candlelit theatre wearing Victorian coats, top hats and bonnets and carrying traditional lanterns.
“I was at the rehearsal room when they practised the song and hearing their beautiful harmonies was really moving.”
Nicholas Parsons narrates the show, linking scenes from the story of Scrooge, plus new songs and famous carols.
