Phoenix Choir is seeking new musical director as rehearsals for summer begin

PHOENIX Choir has started rehearsals for its summer concert with a change of leadership.

John Langridge has decided to stand down as musical director, and the choir is joined by Brian Newman and Jane Pendry as acting musical directors until a new one is appointed.

Anyone who is interested in the role or who would like more details should send an email to claujune@aol.com by April 4.

The choice for the summer concert is a selection of choruses, operatic and choral.

The choral pieces will include Gunoud’s Ave Maria, Bruckner’s Locus Iste, Panis Angelicus by Franck, Ave verum Corpus by Mozart, the Sanctus from Schubert’s German Mass and the less well know but lovely Isanae et varae curae by Joseph Haydn.

There are several opera choruses including The Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves from Nabucco, and The Anvil Chorus from Il Travatore, both by Verdi.

The choir is holding a Come-Sing Workshop on March 26 from 10am to 4pm at Willingdon Community College, Broad Road, Willingdon.

This is open to all singers for £10 which includes refreshments and music hire. Please bring your own lunch.
