Welcome to the Banquet! Eastbourne Gilbert & Sullivan Society are preparing to stage ‘The Sorcerer’ at The Devonshire Park Theatre, Eastbourne, May 7-11 inclusive.
The shows start at 7.45pm with matinee performances on the Wednesday and Saturday at 2.30pm.
One of the lesser known G&S works - The Sorcerer was first performed in 1877 at the Opera Comique in London.
It ran for 178 performances and set the pattern for many of the later works, with the customary patter song.
This year’s production is directed by Carol Mounter with musical direction by Nicola Brazier.
The show has been set as a traditional production and will feature a fine orchestra of local talent.
The company features many stalwarts of Eastbourne G&S with Paul Eccles cast as John Wellington Wells (The Sorcerer), Neil Horstcraft as Alexis and Alison King playing the role of Aline.
Any Eastbourne G&S performance wouldn’t be the same without Brenda Gower and Peter Tucknott who shine once again as Lady Sangazure and Sir Marmaduke Pointdextre.
Christopher Peck and Lucy Sarsfield provide further love interest as Dr Daly and Constance, with Marian Pierce helping the course of true love as Mrs Partlet.
Will true love encompass the village of Ploverleigh...or will it need the helping hand of a Sorcerer’s potion?
The show features a host of beautiful melodies and the cast looks forward to welcoming you.
