Vienna Proms makes first Congress appearance

ENJOY a delightful summer night’s concert when The Vienna Proms, with the National Concert Orchestra of Great Britain, makes its debut visit to the Congress Theatre on June 19 (7.30pm).

The spirit of traditional Viennese summer concerts is captured in this delightful show, which is based closely on the wonderful concerts given in the Austrian capital, featuring a full program of Strauss and other composers of the ‘Romantic’ period.

The concert opens with the Die Fledermaus Overture and includes a host of famous Strauss Waltzes and Polkas including The Blue Danube, Tritsch Tratsch Polka and Vienna Blood. The music continues with the work of Franz Lehar, including a medley of his best known tunes and the famous Gold and Silver Waltz.

The concert closes in the traditional manner, with the rousing Radetsky March.

The National Concert Orchestra was formed in 2007 by conductor and musical director Greg Francis with a remit to perform a wide variety of light popular music.

Tickets cost £17.50-£21.50, call 412000.
