Guests attending the Palm Court Strings afternoon tea concert at the Grand Hotel had a surprise guest alongside resident violinist Shelley van Loen. Shelley and her orchestra perform on the last Sunday of the month (apart from June, July and December).
On the back of the hotel’s appeal to local residents for any memorabilia spanning the 140 years of the Grand being open, David Homewood came forward with a fascinating story. David is a keen collector of old gramophones and records. Remarkably much of his collection was actually recorded in the Great Hall of the hotel between 1924 and 1938! David played songs by Albert Sandler, Tom Jones and Leslie Jeffries, all of whom were once Band leaders at the Grand. Anyoe who has similarar memorabilia can contact Jackie Webley on 01323 412345.
