Performing what has been described as ‘gorgeous folk/alt country’, the Mountain Firework Company returns to The Lamb Folk Club on Wednesday, April 16. Simultaneously mournful and upbeat, the band’s driving and melodic sound is derived from an all acoustic string band line-up of guitars, fiddle, banjo, mandolin, double bass and drums.
Spearheading the band is Irishman Gareth McGahan whose song writing, gruff accented singing and finger style guitar and banjo playing are at the core of its sound.
By the time their second album, ‘Samurai’, was released, they had earned themselves a reputation as one of the very best acoustic live acts in the south with a devoted fan base.
It was, however, the release of their latest album, ‘The Lonesome Losing Blues’, and the rave reviews that followed, which brought them to the attention of a wider audience earning them invitations to the prestigious Celtic Connections Festival in Glasgow and The Folk Alliance Showcase event in Kansas City.
The music starts 8pm, admission is £6 on the door- call 728268.
