FROM Mozart to McCartney – that’s the soundtrack to the Under Ground Theatre coffee morning on August 11 (10am-noon) promised by the immensely-talented family threesome, the Gibbs Trio.
The emphasis will again be on popular classical pieces – with arrangements for two violins and viola of works such as Pachelbel’s “Canon in D” and Mozart’s “Eine Kleine Nachtmusik”.
There’ll also be some less familiar classical music –probably a Trio in C Major by Beethoven and Dvorak’s “Romantic Pieces”.
However, pop-fans will not be ignored. Songs by Lennon & McCartney and by Van Morrison will also be included – approached, no doubt, with the energy and enthusiasm that are the hallmarks of any performance by the Gibbs Trio.
They say they always enjoy what has now become an annual appearance at the Under Ground – where Saturday morning regulars insist they get better every time, as their musical education gathers pace.
Fiona (violin) has just completed the first year of a PhD in Music at the Royal College of Music, following her Master’s at King’s.
Her younger twin bothers will soon be starting the fourth years of their first degrees at music college: Mark (viola and piano) also at the Royal, and Iain (violin) at Trinity.
Entry is free.
