LEGENDARY English singer-songwriter Steve Ashley is making a return visit to The Lamb Folk Club on September 19.
With a string of highly-acclaimed solo albums to his name, Steve is a folk-rock singer of international renown and a popular visitor to The Lamb, High Street, Old Town.
For 40 years, his songs have won the respect of critics and fellow-performers alike, prompting cover versions from many leading artists including: Fairport Convention, Anne Briggs, Martin Simpson, Wizz Jones and Phil Beer. Steve also has, what New York’s ‘Variety’ magazine described as, “one of the funniest of dry stage raps”.
His award-winning debut album, “Stroll On” [Gull 1974] is now widely regarded as a folk-rock classic and his most recent release for Topic Records, “Time and Tide”, was described by ‘Froots’ magazine as “a modern day masterpiece”.
A former member of The Albion Country Band, Ragged Robin and his own Steve Ashley Band, he has also performed orchestral concerts with the late Robert Kirby [arranger for Nick Drake] and occasionally as a guest with Fairport Convention.
Admission to the event is £5 on the door, all are welcome and the music starts at 8pm. The number for any enquiries is 728268.
