The legendary Joe Brown is coming to the Royal Hippodrome Theatre on Saturday, September 27 (8pm) and due to demand seating has been opened in the Grand Circle. But tickets are already selling fast so don’t delay – book now.
It was back in 1958, as Lonnie Donegan was ruling the charts with ‘Rock Island Line’, that 17-year-old Joe joined his first band, the Spacemen Skiffle Group.
Three years later he was resident lead guitarist on producer Jack Good’s groundbreaking TV show Boy Meets Girls and found himself backing visiting American stars like Gene Vincent, Eddie Cochran and Johnny Cash.
Since then his career in the music industry grew from strength to strength and 2008 saw his 50th anniversary as a professional musician. In 2009 Joe was awarded the coveted Outstanding Contribution to Music Award and two days later it was announced he was to be awarded an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list.
Latterly Joe continued to break box office records and gain new supporters throughout 2009 and 2010 when, having cropped up as a special guest on Bob Harris’ own 40th anniversary programme for BBC Radio 2, he completed his own UK tour and also joined Status Quo in December for the arena section of their Quid Pro Quo tour. Joe is a one off, a compelling and unique performer - an extraordinary talent and a truly enduring Rock Legend. Tickets, £21-£26, from 01323 412000 or online www.royalhippodrome.com
