PIANIST David Newton is bringing his world-class jazz trio to the Under Ground Theatre on June 24 (8pm).
Widely regarded as one of the UK’s finest jazz pianists, David is a nine-times winner of a British Jazz Award, and a Fellow of Leeds College of Music.
A long-time friend and collaborator of sax supremo Alan Barnes, and playwright Alan Ayckbourn, David has also written haunting themes for many TV productions and films, here and in the USA.
Following many years as an exquisite accompanist for singers including Carol Kidd, Marion Montgomery, Tina May, Annie Ross, Claire Martin and Stacey Kent, David is now relishing the special sound and musical freedom of working in a trio format.
Alongside him at the UGT will be two other huge jazz talents – Andy Cleyndert (bass) and Steve Brown (drums).
Tickets cost £11, call 737677.
