The Congress Theatre stage will once again be transformed into a fantastical junk yard for the ‘Jellicle Ball’ when Cats opens in Eastbourne next Tuesday (May 20) for a 12-day run ending Saturday, May 31.

Returning to the town with the cast will be last year’s Eastbourne Theatres Pantomime leading lady Charlene Ford.

Those that attended the last night of the Devonshire Park pantomime Aladdin in January will recall Charlene being given the news of her successful audition for the part as Bombalurina live on stage.

Bombalurina is a key character in Cats with solos and duets for some of the most well-known numbers in the musical, including The Gumbie Cat, Rum Tum Tuger, Grizabella the Glamour Cat, Bustopher Jones and Macavity.

Now is your chance to see Charlene’s transformation from cheeky adventurous Aladdin to sassy feline.

Also returning to Eastbourne is Clare Rickard, 2010 cast member of the exhilarating fast-paced popular song and dance show Gotta Sing Gotta Dance, and Chichester based Abigail Jaye.

Based on T.S Eliot’s ‘Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats’, the story tells how on just one special night of the year, all Jellicle cats meet at the Jellicle Ball where Old Deuteronomy, their wise and benevolent leader, makes the Jellicle choice and announces which of them will go up to the heaviside layer and be reborn into a whole new Jellicle life.

Music, dance and verse fuse together in an enchanting blend of fantasy, drama and romance.
